A seven-year-old boy is in hospital and a 55-year-old man has been arrested after a school bus collided with the boy, who was riding his bike, in Wakaw.

RCMP say the bus and the boy crashed Thursday at about 3:30 p.m. Both were travelling in the same direction and collided at the intersection of Second Avenue South and Third Street South, in the northcentral Saskatchewan town.

The boy, who police say was wearing a helmet, was taken into nearby Wakaw School by a passerby and treated by paramedics before STARS flew him to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

The man was arrested for failing to remain at the scene of an accident. He is scheduled to appear in Wakaw Provincial Court on July 12.
