A missing autistic teen has been found, according to Saskatoon police.

Police tweeted at 4:30 p.m. that Austin Carter was located safe and sound.

Carter, 16, was reported missing Friday morning after he was last seen leaving his home on Lindsay Drive in the Greystone Heights neighbourhood. He did not arrive at school.

Police said in a media release he was found in a bushy area on the east side of the South Saskatchewan River, directly across from the water treatment plant. He was attempting to hide when officers found him.

He was in good health but will be assessed by paramedics as a precaution.

The Saskatoon police plane and canine units helped officers locate Carter.

Carter went missing last year as well. He was gone for 16 hours before he was found north of the city near Wanuskewin Heritage Park.
