A charge against a Beauval, Sask., man arrested after an alleged assault in the northern Saskatchewan community has been upgraded following the victim’s death.

The 20-year-old accused, initially arrested for assault causing bodily harm, is now facing a manslaughter charge.

RCMP say officers responded early in the morning March 31 to an assault call at a home in Beauval. A man, 19-year-old Darren Buffin, was found with serious injuries, according to police.

Buffin was taken to hospital in Ile-a-la Crosse before he was moved to Saskatoon. He died in hospital April 9.

The assault charge against the accused was withdrawn after the manslaughter charge was laid.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Canoe Lake on Thursday morning.
