A 38-year-old Saskatoon woman has been charged with arson after a house fire on the city's west side Thursday.

Firefighters were called to a house in the 200 block of Avenue M North just after noon to see heavy black smoke was billowing from the wood-framed structure. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control within a half an hour but remained on the scene until 2 p.m. to ensure the flames were completely extinguished.

No one was injured in the fire.

Damage to the house is estimated at more than $100,000, and police said in a news release that the structure is expected to be a total loss.

The woman charged in the case is expected to appear in Saskatoon provincial court Friday morning.
