A street fair in Prince Albert drew a few thousand people to Central Avenue Saturday to glimpse a blast from the past.
James Banman, with the Downtwon Improvement Association, says the 1912 theme was a way for residents to draw a link from the past to the future. “The theme of 1912, we got that specifically because that's when Prince Albert boomed for the first time so all of this stuff happened a hundred years ago and here we are in 2012, Prince Albert's booming again so we thought we would celebrate."
There were lots of family friendly activities and performances, including street dancers, jugglers, and buskers.
“There was a little parade that just went by which was awesome. I'm going to say there was anywhere from 4000 to 5000 people, which is what we were expecting," says Banman.
Banman says events like this are critical to encourage more people to visit the downtown area
“I think it's vitally important. I mean, this is the original gathering place of Prince Albert. And I think it still should be. I mean, we've got these gorgeous buildings and great businesses and it's just a place where people should enjoy themselves and visit more often."
