Saskatoon is expanding its city limits.

The city is taking over about 4,400 acres of land from the Rural Municipality of Corman Park, starting Sept. 1.

The land is scattered along existing city borders, with several pieces located along the southwest and two larger areas located in the north.

The largest chunk of land sits between Highway 16 and Highway 12, north of the Agriplace area.

About 100 property owners will be affected, according to a Corman Park spokesperson. Most of these properties are commercial or residential, and very few homeowners live in the areas.

A city spokesperson said officials began looking at the new areas in late 2012 and that the two sides began discussing annexation in 2013.

The city compensated the RM about $5.64 million in the deal to make up for lost tax revenue.

Property owners will begin paying city taxes next year.
