Smoking in parks, sports bleachers and restaurant patios may soon no longer be allowed in Warman and Martensville.
The cities were approached by the Lung Association of Saskatchewan in January and, though plans are in the early stages, both communities are working together bring in new smoking bylaws.
“Cancer caused by smoking is still the number one preventable cause of death in Canada, and so just putting that positive image out there for our kids — anything we can do to do that — is just a good idea,” said Martensville mayor Kent Muench.
The bans could come into place as early as New Year’s Day 2015.
