A 37-year-old man is expected in court Monday after an armed standoff in Saskatoon in which shots were allegedly fired at police.

Officers were called to a home Friday night after word that a woman has been assaulted.

A man armed with a rifle and barricaded inside the home on the 300 block of Coppermine Crescent fired at least one shot at a woman as she escaped the house and a number of shots at officers who responded to the call, police said Saturday.

The woman and several other people got away, but had to take cover behind a car when a suspect allegedly started firing in the direction of police.

An armoured vehicle was called in and a man surrendered about three hours later when he walked out of the house. He was not carrying a weapon when he left the home, police said.

The man is charged with three counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a weapon, and one count each of assaulting a police officer, using a firearm in the commission of a criminal offence, pointing a firearm and careless use of a firearm.
