Damage is estimated at $300,000 after a home west of Saskatoon was destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon.
Heavy smoke could be seen for kilometres as fire crews from Saskatoon responded just before 4 p.m. to a home located south of Highway 14 near Grandora.
The house was totally involved when firefighters arrived with only the attached garage not in flames, said a news release from Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services.
Firefighters had to use a defensive strategy and water tankers from the Saskatoon and Delisle fire departments supplied water as access to the yard was limited, the release said. It took firefighters about 90 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
The occupants of the home were able to get out safely.
The fire will be investigated by the provincial fire commissioner’s office.
