Construction is underway on the Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan.
A ground breaking ceremony was held Thursday at the site in Saskatoon.
About 300 concrete piles will be installed during the initial phase of construction, which will include foundation work.
The 176-bed facility will be located next to the Royal University Hospital on the University of Saskatchewan campus.
In addition to medical services for children and pregnant women, the maternal and children’s hospital will include a pediatric and adult emergency department.
Construction of the main building will begin in early 2015, with the hospital scheduled for completion in 2017.
