Residents of an 8th Street apartment block are breathing a sigh of relief after work started today on the removal of a building-sized icicle.
Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services sent an order to the landlord of the three storey apartment block to remove the large icicle on the grounds of safety. After failing to hear from the landlord, members of Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services arranged contractors to begin the removal. Subsequently, the landlord contacted SFPS and has cooperated with the removal.
Contractors started removing the ice from the side of the building early this morning.
The removal has been hampered by utility wires frozen into the icy mass.
