The television show that poked gentle fun at small-town Prairie life is headed to the big screen.
Corner Gas: The Movie will begin filming next month at the set in Rouleau that stood-in for the show’s fictional community of Dog River.
"I'm excited. The entire gang is back. The movie picks up five years after we last checked in and it has everything you loved about the show – snappy dialogue, colourful yet relatable characters, ill-fitting denim trousers, you name it," show creator and star Brent Butt said in a release
The movie will feature all members of the show’s original cast including Gabrielle Miller, Eric Peterson, Fred Ewanuick, Janet Wright, Lorne Cardinal, Tara Spencer-Nairn, and Nancy Robertson.
Producers say the movie will have Dog River residents rallying to save the town as they know it in the face of a devious plan by a corporate chain that would change the town forever.
Funding for the production is in place, but a Kickstarter campaign has been launched to give fans the chance to be part of the-movie-making process with contributions ranging from $5 to $8,000 providing the opportunity for supporters to receive collectable merchandise and personalized, one-of-a kind experiences.
The 90-minute film will be released in Cineplex theatres before Christmas and will also air on The Movie Network, CTV, and The Comedy Network.
