The University of Saskatchewan has named Roy Romanow its 15th chancellor.

The U of S Senate approved Romanow’s appointment during a meeting on Saturday. He will replace Blaine Favel and will take over the position on November 1, 2016.

“All of the opportunities in my life flowed from my time at the U of S,” Romanow said in a media release. “I never imagined being chancellor, but I will do whatever I can to assist the institution in maintaining and improving its standing as one of the best universities in Canada and beyond.”

Romanow served as Premier of Saskatchewan from 1991 to 2001. He is currently a senior policy fellow in the College of Arts and Science.
