A cost-cutting plan at the University of Saskatchewan survived a non-confidence vote Thursday.

University council voted 42 to 18 against a non-binding motion that accused administrators of not consulting faculty throughout the TransformUS process.

More than 300 professors, staff and others signed the non-confidence petition ahead of the vote.

Several opponents of TransformUS called it a flawed process.

The process is designed to help the university avoid a $44.5-million deficit by determining which programs and services to cut.

The university students’ union executive voted unanimously against the cost-cutting plan last month.

The plan is expected to be implemented around May 1.
