A small explosion rattled the back of a McOrmond Drive strip mall Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called just after 11 a.m. to 1804 McOrmond Drive after reports an electrical panel on the back of the mall exploded, resulting in a fire. The flames were extinguished within three minutes of crews’ arrival.

Businesses in the mall, including a Shoppers Drug Mart, were evacuated and light smoke could be found throughout the building. No one was injured.

SaskPower crews were also called to the scene to de-energize the building.

A cause of the explosion is still under investigation. It’s unclear if weather was a contributing factor.

Power had yet to be restored to the strip mall as of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
