A health-conscious mini grocery store has opened its doors in Saskatoon's Riversdale neighbourhood.

Soul Foods had its soft opening Saturday. It specializes in organic bulk foods, locally sourced products and specialty health items.

The store will soon carry basic grocery items like milk, cheese and eggs and fresh fruits and vegetables. The owners say the bulk foods offer items at a lower price point. They want to connect to the community of Riversdale by asking those who live there what they'd like to see at what they call a "conscious neighbourhood grocery store."

“Conscious in all areas; conscious of the neighbourhood that we're in; conscious of what we're putting into our body,” said Soul Foods co-owner Mallory Guenther.

“In the grocery stores nowadays, there's a lot of food that's labelled as food, but it's really disguised because it doesn't fuel us in the way that true food truly should.”

Soul Foods is a rebranded business that was formerly located in the Saskatoon Farmers' Market.
