A Taser was used by Saskatoon police Thursday to take down a man with a knife.

Officers responded to a call about a man with a weapon yelling at people in the area of 19th Street West and Avenue H South at about 5:15 p.m.

The man had the knife in his hand when officers arrived, police said in a media release. He was ordered to drop it several times, but refused.

Police used a conducted energy weapon and the man dropped knife before being taken into custody.

He was not injured by the Taser, according to police, but was transported to hospital for medical treatment.
