Chris Ooms didn’t have great expectations when he sat down in the audience at The Price Is Right. He was just excited to be there. Winning big was a bonus.

The Saskatoon man walked away with a laptop and US$8,000.

“It’s a dream come true,” he said on Friday, two days after the episode aired. He has been tight-lipped since the show was recorded about two months ago.

Ooms has been a fan of the show since Bob Barker hosted. He’s always wanted to see the show live and never expected to play. He said he was in shock when he saw his name picked.

“I saw my name and I figured there’s somebody else here with the same name,” Ooms said. “From there on, it was just... a blur.”

To prepare for the exciting day at the studio, Ooms, his wife and his daughter decorated T-shirts.

They wrote Drew Carey’s name, names of different Price Is Right games and “Canada” on the shirts. They even wrote the gameshow’s well-known slogan: “Come on down!”

“It was quite exciting making them,” he said.

Ooms beat out three other contestants in contestant’s row to win the laptop before grabbing the US$8,000 prize while playing “It’s in the bag.”

His wheel spin, unfortunately, went over the $1.00 mark and he wasn’t able to try his hand in the showcase.

His winnings are expected to arrive in the near future.
