A Saskatoon man is recovering in hospital after he was attacked by a group of about eight people armed with bear mace and a machete.

The attack occurred Thursday in the 1100 block of Idylwyld Drive North around 11 p.m. Police said a man was assaulted and robbed by a group of about eight people — one armed with a machete and several armed with bear mace.

He was hit with the machete and suffered injuries to his hands and stomach. The injuries are not life-threatening, according to police.

One suspect was described as a First Nations male in a red hoody and red bandana. One was described as a Caucasian male wearing a gas mask and another was described a male in a black hoody and ski mask.

Police said they did not have descriptions of the other suspects.
