Saskatchewan is bringing in a wolf hunt in an area experiencing a high number of livestock kills.

The pilot project in the east-central area is to run from Sept. 15 to March 31.

The Environment Ministry will issue 100 licences on a first-come, first-served basis that must be picked up in person.

The hunt will be restricted to the wildlife management zone that runs south along the forest from Carrot River to Greenwater Lake Provincial Park, then east along the forest to Hudson Bay.

Environment Minister Scott Moe says Saskatchewan Crop Insurance has reported an unusually high number of claims for livestock predation.

The Saskatchewan Trappers Association says it supports the decision.
