Prince Albert residents will have to continue boiling their water for another month.

When the city's water troubles started in early February residents were told things would be back to normal within two weeks, but that timetable quickly turned into a month and been nearly that long already.

Now it will likely be until the end of March before the boil water order is lifted, although the city does not anticipate extending the timeline again after this.

"In the last few weeks there has been some significant work accomplished in terms of developing and executing a plan to restore the water to normal," city manager Robert Cotterill said in a news release.

"We have been able to move forward with some critical elements of our plan including the cleaning of reservoirs and installation of a fourth filter at the plant, while also managing a major infrastructure upgrade at the plant."

The boil water order was issued earlier this month after giardia was detected in treated water samples. As of February 27, public health officials have reported one positive test result for giardia out of more than 140 samples sent by medical clinics for Prince Albert and area residents.
