The parents of a 21-year-old mechanic student, who died in a motorcycle crash, are aiming to start a scholarship in their son’s name.

The scholarship would help young mechanics who need financial support.

Sheri and Carmen Volk plan on finishing their son’s auto projects, eventually auction the vehicles and then put the money towards a scholarship for the mechanic program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

“It would mean absolutely everything to me that his name lives on, long after we pass on,” Carmen Volk said.

The family has a GoFundMe page started with more than $1,800 raised. They’ve also started a fund at TCU Financial dedicated to raising money for the scholarship.

Chance had been working on a 1979 Toyota Hilux for about five years, before he died in July in a crash off Valley Road.

The Volk’s said they plan to finish restoring that truck first and then work on the others on his grandparents’ farms.

“We want people to know what a wonderful son we had and he was very giving. He helped all his friends, aunts and uncles fix vehicles,” Sheri Volk said.

“We always had a car in the driveway that someone needed fixed and he would like to pay it forward so we’d like to do it for him.”

Sheri and Carmen said they are dedicated to helping young mechanics. They’ve already donated their son’s textbooks to a first-year student.
