RCMP have laid a second-degree murder charge in the death of a 39-year-old woman on the Grandmother’s Bay First Nation.

At about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Mounties were called to a complaint of an assault at a home in the northern Saskatchewan community.

Upon arrival, police say they found a woman dead inside the residence.

A 37-year-old woman has since been charged with second-degree murder. She will remain in custody until her first court appearance in La Ronge Provincial Court on Monday, according to RCMP.

Both the accused and the victim are from Grandmother’s Bay.

Police say the investigation is ongoing. An autopsy will be conducted later this week in Saskatoon.
