Police have confirmed that human remains found near Arelee, Sask. are that of Shane Perret, 37, from Saskatoon.

Perret’s remains were discovered on a rural property near the town on Friday by a local resident.

An autopsy was performed on Tuesday. Police say they are treating the death as a homicide.

Perret was last seen in Saskatoon on Dec. 11, 2015.

Police say it was not uncommon for Perret to hitchhike as a means of transportation, and he does not have any known ties to the area. They also describe the location that his remains were found as isolated.

Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area since December is urged to call police.

Police had received reports that Perret was seen in Nanaimo B.C. on January 27 or 28, but police have not been able to confirm this report.
