The family of a Saskatoon murder victim has asked prosecutors to appeal a sentence handed to one of the men accused in his death.

Estevan Fuenzalida was sentenced Friday to two years for manslaughter and six months for lesser charges in the stabbing death of Dustin Boulet.

Boulet was killed March 1 outside Bridges bar on 22nd Street West while celebrating his 29th birthday. Witnesses said he was trying to break up a fight.

Fuenzalida supplied a knife that was allegedly used by another man to fatally stab Boulet, according to an agreed statement of facts.

The Boulet family said Saturday they were expecting a longer sentence. They told CTV their victim impact statements were censored and that some of Boulet’s friends were not allowed to read their statements because they were not submitted in time.

They said they believe this affected the judge’s decision.
