Farmers angry at the federal government's plan to end the Canadian Wheat Board's monopoly are protesting the move.

A group of approximately 60 farmers blocked a rail line near Colonsay Friday morning. They say they're trying to send a message to the prime minister.

Earlier this week Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz tabled legislation that would remove the Wheat Board's monopoly on the sale of Western Canadian wheat and barley and allow individual farmers to market their own grain. Those opposed say they are being railroaded by Ottawa and call the legislation undemocratic.
