A Saskatoon murder suspect has been arrested in Edmonton, according to Saskatoon police.

Police in the Alberta city arrested Miguel Gomez on Thursday. The 20-year-old was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder in connection to the April 16 stabbing death of Matthew Herman.

Herman, 22, died after a fight in a parking lot at Assiniboine Drive and Warman Road. He was trying to defend a friend when the stabbing occurred, his aunt told CTV News.

Saskatoon police said in a media release Gomez is scheduled to see a justice of the peace before being transported back to Saskatoon to face charges.

A Saskatoon court date has not yet been set.
