Rubbernecking drivers who snapped photos of a truck stuck underneath a Saskatoon overpass Tuesday afternoon are facing charges.

Saskatoon police say six people were charged with use of a hand-held device while driving after they were spotted taking photos of the accident scene at Lorne Avenue and Ruth Street.

And to make the situation worse, four of those drivers were also charged for not wearing a seatbelt and one for driving through a restricted area.

The hydro-vac truck became stuck just before 1 p.m. Tuesday after its operator inadvertently left the tank in a raised position. As the vehicle went under the overpass its tank came into contact with the overpass and the vehicle became wedged underneath.

Traffic in the area was restricted for more than three hours to allow for the vehicle to be removed. There was minimal damage to the overpass, but the vehicle was significantly damaged.

The driver of the truck, a 55-year-old Saskatoon man, faces a charge of driving without due care and attention.
