An investigation is underway after a Saskatoon police officer shot and killed a dog Monday afternoon.

An officer fired a single shot at a dog that had escaped a house, knocked the officer to the ground and began attacking him, police said in a news release.

The officer was responding to dispute between a landlord and a tenant at a home in the 1300 block of 22nd Street West just before 12:30 p.m.

The officer sustained minor injuries but the animal died.
