Transit riders could have shorter commutes come next week along Eighth Street.

Beginning July 3, buses will arrive every seven-and-a-half minutes during peak hours on weekdays, and every 10 minutes during off-peak times. During evenings, weekends and statutory holidays buses will come every 30 minutes.

Before the change is implemented, buses arrive every 30 minutes along Eighth Street during peak hours on weekdays.

Transit users may also notice other changes including five new routes throughout the city, adjustments to 22 existing routes and six routes being removed.

The city says the changes are necessary to accommodate Saskatoon’s growth.

“We’ve ended some pilot project routes and understand adjustments to existing routes may mean a change in routine and may mean a few extra minutes on the bus,” Jim McDonald, director of Saskatoon Transit said in a news release. “But these changes will be beneficial to the overall transit system and the majority of bus riders,” McDonald said Monday.
