A former Saskatoon Hilltop who was convicted of drugs and weapons charges has been granted a new trial.

Adrian Charles, 28, won a successful appeal earlier this month.

A Saskatchewan appeal court judge made the order after the Crown agreed with Charles’ defence lawyer that the provincial court judge in Charles’ previous trial made a legal error.

Charles is charged with cocaine possession and having a restricted, loaded gun. The charges stem from 2008 when Saskatoon police arrested him on outstanding attempted murder charges from Ontario.

He was acquitted in his first trial and convicted in his second trial. The next trial will be his third.

A date for the trial has not yet been set.
