Snowfall warnings were in effect Monday for areas of northern Saskatchewan as a low pressure system continued to move through the province.

The La Ronge region and the area around Pelican Narrows and Cumberland House in the province’s northeast can expect as much as 10 centimetres of snow during the day Monday.

Environment Canada radar showed snow continuing in the Prince Albert region early Monday, but it was expected to gradually taper off as the system moved east.

The weather system brought snow to a wide swath of west-central and northwest Saskatchewan on Sunday. Maidstone received 16 centimetres of snow to 6 a.m. Monday, while Spiritwood had 14 cm, North Battleford and Prince Albert both saw nine cm and here was seven cm of snow reported in Meadow Lake.

Special weather statements issued Sunday for the Prince Albert and Shellbrook areas remained in place early Monday, but those for the Battlefords and Meadow Lake region had ended.

Rain that fell in Saskatoon and the surrounding area on Sunday turned to snow overnight although there was little accumulation.

The Highway Hotline was reporting winter driving conditions and wet road subject to icing on most highways in centreal Saskatchewan Monday morning.

The temperature Monday is expected to top the freezing mark in most of central Saskatchewan for most of the week, which should help to melt any accumulated show.
