One man was airlifted to hospital Wednesday morning after an eight-passenger van crashed into a slough just off a central Saskatchewan highway.

RCMP were called to the collision on Highway 2, about 11 kilometres north of Young, Sask., shortly before 11 a.m.

The van was upright in a shallow slough on the west side of the highway when crews arrived, RCMP wrote in a media release. One passenger with undetermined injuries was transported via STARS air ambulance to hospital in Saskatoon.

The seven other people in the vehicle were sent to hospital in Watrous as a precaution. They have since been released.

Traffic in both directions on the highway was closed for several hours.
