A tow truck hauling an empty ammonia tanker rolled on Circle drive at approximately 8:24 Friday night.

Saskatoon Police said two tow trucks were headed west bound on College Drive and were exiting to proceed north on Circle Drive. While the first truck, which was carrying a power unit, merged successfully, the second truck separated from the ammonia tanker it was carrying and rolled.

Both tankers were on tow trucks because of a previous collision that left a gash in the tanker.

Police said that crash didn’t pose a public safety risk because the ammonia tanker purged its content before being towed.

While the investigation is ongoing, Police said an initial indication suggested mechanical failure on the tow truck caused the accident.

Traffic was temporarily rerouted so the collision could be cleared up, but was flowing regularity by 10:30 p.m.
