A tow-truck driver is dead after a four-vehicle crash involving a semi on a southeastern Saskatchewan highway.

RCMP say the crash occurred on Highway 22, between the community of Gerald and a nearby potash mine, at about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The tow truck, a semi, and two other vehicles were involved in the collision, according to police.

The man driving the tow truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was taken to hospital, but RCMP did not clarify the extent of his injuries.

Police do not yet know the cause of the crash or if weather was a factor.

Highway 22 was blocked for several hours and motorists were asked to avoid the area. RCMP sent an update just after 8 p.m., stating the collision scene was cleared.
