The Bell of Batoche has arrived at its new home in Winnipeg.

The historic bell was first taken as a trophy by the Canadian military during the Riel Rebellion in 1885. Years later it was stolen and hidden with the hopes of one day being returned to the Metis people.

This summer, the bell came out of hiding and returned to Batoche for the annual “Back to Batoche” Metis celebration.

The bell has now been placed on permanent display at the St. Boniface museum in Winnipeg.
