A Chinese video game publishing company, Z-Play, has bought 70 per cent of Noodlecake Studios in a $6.3-million deal.
The Saskatoon-based video game developer, Noodlecake, will use the money and new partnership to design more games and enter the Chinese market.
“China is the biggest market in the world for mobile gaming, but it’s hard to get into that market unless you have a partnership. The Chinese government has strict restrictions on foreign companies,” Jordan Schidlowsky, CEO of Noodlecake Studios, said.
Noodlecake Studios, the seven-year-old mobile game developers, has created hundreds of games, both in-house and for third-party companies. Their most notable game is Super Stickman Golf.
Schidlowsky said since the acquisition, Noodlecake’s games have had five times more downloads in China than the U.S.
