The lion cubs born last fall at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo fall now have names. Their new titles are thanks to the winner of a Name the Cubs contest, a 10-year-old boy with a touch story.
Jonathan McLeod pitched the winning names Nathan and Shadow, in honour of his six-year-old cousin Nathan, who died of leukemia in 2010. Shadow was the name of Nathan’s stuffed animal, who accompanied the boy to all of his medical appointments.
The lion family will remain in Saskatoon until October, when they will return to their permanent home in Ontario.
Jonathan’s submission was one of 2,800. He'll receive a one-year family membership to the Saskatoon Zoo Society, a framed photo of the lion cubs, and two plush lion toys.
