A missing 88-year-old man with early onset dementia has been found dead, according to Saskatoon police.
Police say Philip Noonan was found dead at about 3 p.m. Monday in a field on the west side of Circle Drive, near Attridge Drive and 108th Street.
He was last seen by his family at his house in the Sutherland neighbourhood at about 10:30 Sunday morning and was reportedly seen a short while after walking across a bridge near Preston Crossing. He had early onset dementia and was not wearing his hearing aids.
His son, who described him as gregarious, welcoming and always smiling, told CTV News planning a funeral over the holidays will be difficult for the family.
“It’s a quiet time for our family, I guess, as we have to plan this closure at an untimely point in the Christmas season,” Francis Noonan said.
Saskatoon police, Saskatoon and Corman Park Search and Rescue teams, the fire department’s water rescue crew, and family and friends were all involved in the search.
Francis thanked all the people who helped in looking for his father.
“There’s many people that were out there — more than we know — and I’m sure there were many strangers because we were hearing of people encountering others on the paths and open areas and on the street looking for dad,” he said.
The death is not considered suspicious, according to police.
