A 21-year-old man who held a woman and three-year-old child hostage was taken into police custody after a standoff Wednesday.
Police were called to the 500 block of Avenue J North shortly after 12 p.m. after reports of a distraught man holding a woman inside a home against her will. The caller stated the man was threatening to harm himself and the woman.
Police set up a perimeter around the residence as crisis negotiators spoke with the man. A three-year-old child was also in the home during the standoff.
The man exited the home peacefully just after 2 p.m. He had been armed with a knife, police said.
The woman and three-year-old child exited the residence at the same time as the man.
No injuries were reported, but police said the 21-year-old man was transported to hospital as a precaution.
He was charged with two counts of unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and breach of conditions.
