A man wanted in connection with a brazen daytime armed robbery of a downtown Saskatoon jewelry store earlier this year is in police custody.
Muhidiin Ahmed-Farah, 28, was arrested in Montreal and was returned to Saskatoon. He appeared in court Tuesday and was remanded in custody until Thursday.
He is charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit arson, and wearing a disguise during the robbery.
Police had issued a Canada-wide warrant for Ahmed-Farah, one of four men accused of robbing Birks jewelry on Third Avenue South on Feb. 1. Four men wearing construction-style jackets and black balaclavas and brandishing crowbars smashed display cases and stole a large quantity of jewelry, including Rolex watches.
About 90 minutes later, a Dodge Caravan that was used as a getaway vehicle in the robbery was reported on fire near Bottomley Avenue and Osler Street.
Police were able to connect the incident to an eastside apartment and, after executing a search warrant at the apartment, investigators found some of the clothing worn in the robbery.
