Police believe a van left torched near the University of Saskatchewan campus Saturday afternoon was used as a getaway vehicle in a robbery earlier in the morning.
Saskatoon police were called to a robbery on the 100 block of Third Avenue South shortly before 11 a.m. Four men wearing orange construction-style jackets and covering their faces with black balaclavas or scarves entered a store brandishing crowbars.
They damaged display cases and caused extensive damage to the store’s interior before making off with an undisclosed amount of merchandise.
A Dodge Caravan that police believe was used to escape the scene was found 90 minutes later, on fire, near the corner of Osler Street and Bottomley Avenue.
No one was injured during the incidents.
