PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. -- A court has heard that a Saskatchewan man is fit to stand trial in the death of his father.

The defense lawyer for Alvin Buckwold says he is receiving psychiatric treatment while in custody, but has agreed he is capable of sitting through his trial.

Amanda Neudorf says her client has also waived a preliminary hearing in the case.

The 31-year-old is charged with the second-degree murder of prominent Saskatoon lawyer Ian Buckwold.

The 64-year-old, also a mental health advocate, was found dead in July at home at Emma Lake, north of Saskatoon.

The younger Buckwold is to have a trial by judge alone, although no date has been set.
