A former Saskatchewan lieutenant-governor and interim university president will be taking over as SUMA’s new president.
Delegates at the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association convention in Saskatoon Monday elected Gordon Barnhart to a four-year term as president.
Barnhart, who was elected in December to council in his hometown of Saltcoats, Sask., served as the University of Saskatchewan’s interim president from May 2014 to October 2015 after six years as the province’s lieutenant-governor.
He beat out Saskatoon city councillor Darren Hill for the president position.
Barnhart will begin his term at the close of the SUMA convention Wednesday.
