Five men are facing over 40 firearm and drug-related charges after a report of fraud ended with Saskatoon police recovering drugs, a handgun and cash.

Police were called to a hotel in the 100 block of Circle Drive West shortly after 12 p.m. Tuesday. Staff reported a group of men trying to rent hotel rooms fraudulently.

Officers located five men in a hotel room upon their arrival. “The men were acting suspiciously and were taken into custody while a search of the room was conducted,” a police media release stated.

Police recovered a loaded handgun, just under 17 grams of crack cocaine, and $6,300 in cash.

The men, who are from Edmonton, Toronto and Calgary, range in age from 18 to 22 years, according to police. They are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
