A 25-year-old man is being questioned by police following a suspicious house fire in Saskatoon’s Eastview neighbourhood, the city’s fire department says.
Fire crews were called to the blaze at 1940 Easthill at about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday. Heavy smoke and flames shooting from the rear bedroom window of a duplex met firefighters upon their arrival, the department said in a media release.
Crews managed to contain the flames to one side of the complex, but smoke and water seeped into the other suite.
Fire investigators so far consider the blaze suspicious and are working with police to determine the cause.
Everyone in the house was able to escape safely.
Damage is estimated at $200,000.
