The City of Saskatoon received a supply of hot mix asphalt Wednesday, and nine crews immediately hit the streets to start patching potholes.
Normally the city waits for warmer weather before using the hot mix. “It’s not ideal temperatures for the hot mix, but we can’t wait for 20-degree weather,” said Public Works manager, Pat Hyde. “We’ll be inundated by potholes by then."
Over the next three to four weeks the city has eight civic crews and five contractor crews that will be starting patchwork on Saskatoon’s busiest streets. There will also be larger teams sent out to completely level and replace the asphalt in areas where there are a lot of potholes.
“This will be a very aggressive plan, very vigorous. It will be one of the most aggressive plans we’ve ever had,” Hyde said.
The city will post a schedule and map of their progress online. Residents will be able to see what areas are complete, where crews are on the present day, and where they plan to be in the following two to three days.
