Don Atchison unveiled his plans Thursday for Saskatoon’s downtown.

He said if re-elected he wants to see 10 to 15 per cent of Saskatoon’s population living in the city centre, and he believes highrise buildings are the way to reach that goal.

Atchison pledged to remove bikes lanes on Fourth Avenue and move old rail lines out of the city centre to create a network for bicycles. The mayoral candidate wants the city to work towards building a grocery store downtown and re-examine the case for a downtown arena.

Atchison would also like to see the University of Saskatchewan’s possible new school of architecture located in the city’s warehouse district.

Atchison, who’s aiming to keep his seat as mayor in the upcoming Oct. 26 election, was leading Charlie Clark 29 to 24 per cent in Mainstreet/Postmedia’s most recent poll, with candidate Kelley Moore trailing in third with 18 per cent support. Newcomer Devon Hein had yet to announce his candidacy as of the poll’s release.
