A Wilkie man accused of killing his estranged wife has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment to determine if he’s fit to face charges.

Wesley Veit, who’s accused of second-degree murder in the death of Heidi Veit, will be transferred to Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford for the assessment. He’s currently being held at the Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre.

Heidi was a mother of two boys and worked as an education assistant at McLurg High School. Her body was found March 27 in a rural area near Wilkie, in west-central Saskatchewan.

Wesley was arrested two days later.

Results of his assessment are expected to be ready for his next court appearance on May 1.
