A man accused of beating and burning a woman in Prince Albert last month appeared in court Wednesday.

Leslie Ivan Roderick Black faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated sexual assault.

Sgt. Brandon Mudry says the victim was known to the accused.

The 47-year-old woman was found unconscious outside a community centre in downtown Prince Albert on June 1. She was later taken to hospital in Edmonton where both of her legs were amputated due to burns suffered during the assault. She continues to recover in hospital.

Black was remanded until his next court appearance July 16.
